In a significant crackdown, five individuals have been apprehended in Karnataka for their alleged roles in illegal sex determination tests and female foeticide, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced on Thursday.

The operation took place in the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's Varuna constituency in Mysuru, following a tip-off to health department officials about illicit activities related to sex determination and foeticide. Acting promptly, officials raided a farmhouse in Hunaganahalli village, near Bannur Highway, leading to the arrest of the culprits on Wednesday.

The raids revealed four pregnant women at the scene, alongside a scanning device used for determining fetal sex. Minister Rao highlighted the gravity of the crime on social media, urging society to actively combat this social scourge. A case has been filed under the Prenatal Sex Determination of Fetus (PCPNDT) Act, as authorities remain resolute in their fight against female foeticide.
