Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar highlighted on Monday that the state of Assam requires a unique approach in revising its electoral rolls, due to distinct provisions under the Citizenship Act.
Unlike 12 other states and Union Territories, where a roll clean-up will commence on November 4, Assam's electoral listing revision falls under a separate order given its ongoing Supreme Court-supervised citizenship verification process.
The Election Commission will roll out special intensive revision orders for Assam with a specified SIR date to ensure compliance with the distinctive legal circumstances outlined in the Citizenship Act.
