In a significant legal development, a local court in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district has convicted three people in connection with the 2016 murder of Shakuntala Devi. This verdict comes years after the crime, which stemmed from a long-standing land dispute in the Bhaderwah area.
The victim, Shakuntala Devi, tragically lost her life, while her husband Nehal Chand and son Chain Singh sustained injuries in the violent attack by a rival group. The convicted individuals, identified as Sanjay Kumar, Ram Kumar, and Mukesh Kumar, faced charges at the Bhaderwah Police Station.
On Tuesday, a police spokesperson confirmed that after a protracted trial, the Principal District and Sessions Judge at Bhaderwah issued sentences of 10 years for Sanjay and Ram Kumar, and two years for Mukesh Kumar. Chief Prosecuting Officer K K Bhandral brought a compelling case for the state, leading to the successful conviction.
