Amid escalating political tensions in West Bengal, Governor C V Ananda Bose is preparing to file a defamation lawsuit against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee. The decision follows Banerjee's allegations about a cache of weapons at the Raj Bhavan, claims which have spurred significant controversy.
On Monday, prompted by the TMC leader's assertions, Governor Bose led a comprehensive search operation at the Raj Bhavan. The search, involving Kolkata Police, central forces, and media personnel, yielded no incriminating evidence. Despite invitations, Banerjee was notably absent from the search proceedings.
The Governor's move to the Calcutta High Court aims to address what his office has termed as defamatory and baseless remarks by Banerjee. An FIR has also been filed, underscoring the serious legal implications Banerjee faces under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
