In a significant verdict, the Manjeri Additional District and Sessions Court on Friday convicted Malangadan Shafeek, the nephew of former MLA P V Anvar, in connection with a 1995 murder case. The case pertained to the murder of Palliparamban Manaf, a Youth League worker.
Shafeek was found guilty under IPC Section 302, while three other accused were acquitted. The charges included a range of offenses from unlawful assembly to murder. Following the verdict, Shafeek was placed in judicial custody, with sentencing scheduled for Saturday.
The victim's family, dissatisfied with the court's decision, has escalated the matter to the Kerala High Court. Meanwhile, Anvar, who was acquitted earlier, had resigned from his political position after shifting allegiance from the LDF to the Trinamool Congress, only to lose a subsequent election.
