On Friday, the Supreme Court granted the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) permission to build a water-storage facility and lay pipelines within Buddha Jayanti Park, located in Delhi's Ridge area.

A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi acknowledged the arguments made by Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, representing the authorities, and consented to the CPWD proceeding with the development projects.

Concerns regarding deforestation were raised by senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan during the hearing on the ongoing plea to preserve the Delhi Ridge forest. Prior unauthorized tree felling permissions highlighted the need for strict legal oversight.
