Transformative Impact of India's New Labour Codes on Workers

The newly implemented Labour Codes in India promise significant benefits for workers, ensuring better access to security, dignity, and welfare. The introduction of four comprehensive Labour Codes by the Central government marks a significant shift in the protection and welfare of workers nationwide. BJP MP Raju Bista emphasized the codes' importance, which reshapes existing labour laws to provide enhanced security and welfare for both organized and unorganized workers.

Addressing a media workshop in Siliguri, Bista highlighted the transformative potential of the codes, which include the Code on Wages, Industrial Relations Code, the Code on Social Security, and the Occupational Safety, Health, and Working Conditions Code. These laws aim to extend crucial benefits like mandatory appointment letters, gratuity, and health check-ups to previously underserved sectors.

Particular emphasis was placed on the codes' impact on tea garden workers in the Darjeeling Hills and Dooars region. The reforms replace outdated regulations under the British-era Plantation Labour Act, 1951, ensuring fair wages and equitable working conditions for all.
