The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has confirmed that the temporary 100% Frequent User Rebate at the Oribi Toll Plaza will officially end at 23:59 on 02 December 2025. From tomorrow onward, motorists will return to the standard Frequent User Discount structure, as stipulated in the Government Gazette No. 52073 released on 07 February 2025.
The rebate, first introduced on 08 May 2025, was implemented to offer relief for frequent local commuters who were rerouted onto the N2 South Coast Toll Road following the closure of the uMzimkhulu River Bridge on the R102. The bridge was closed for structural repairs managed by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport.
In September 2025, SANRAL extended the full rebate for an additional three months to coincide with the revised construction timelines. While repairs on the bridge are still ongoing, authorities have noted measurable and encouraging progress.
KwaZulu-Natal provincial head Dudley Mbambo thanked motorists for their cooperation and urged continued engagement with SANRAL systems.
“We extend our sincere appreciation to all motorists who registered during the rebate period. Your participation supported the smooth rollout of the initiative and helped mitigate the inconvenience caused by the detour,” Mbambo stated.
With holiday travel expected to increase traffic volumes, SANRAL is advising road users to register for electronic tolling or update their existing accounts. Electronic tagging ensures:
-
Faster movement through toll lanes
-
Correct and real-time billing
-
Access to all applicable rebates and discount tiers
To support the transition, SANRAL continues to offer Self-Service Terminals (SSTs) at multiple convenient sites, including:
Oribi Toll Plaza (Port Shepstone)
Astron Service Station (Umtentweni)
Oribi Plaza Shopping Centre (Port Shepstone)
Juice Junction, opposite Pick n Pay Centre (Hibberdene)
Motorists who have not yet enrolled in the Frequent User Discount programme are encouraged to do so to continue benefiting from reduced toll fees once the temporary rebate is phased out.
