The Varanasi Police Commissionerate has embarked on an intensive week-long verification drive targeting illegal immigrants, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, throughout the district. This robust operation, launched on Saturday, involves teams systematically checking makeshift settlements and hawker areas to identify individuals without valid documents.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Kashi Zone, Gaurav Banswal, revealed that the effort is to enforce existing laws by tracing those residing illegally. Special teams led by station house officers are tasked with conducting thorough checks in their designated areas, with a focus on hutment clusters and street vendors.
During the initial stages of the operation, Additional DCP Vaibhav Bangar spearheaded a mission in Koirajpur. Law enforcement teams meticulously collected photographs and personal details of individuals encountered during the checks, ensuring a detailed record in official documentation forms.
