An SUV driver allegedly opened fire on toll plaza employees after being asked to pay the toll charge, officials reported Sunday.

The violent altercation took place late Saturday night when the SUV's occupants attempted to evade payment by using the VIP lane, resulting in an escalation to gunfire and an attack with bricks and stones, according to Vipin Rai, toll plaza manager.

Authorities are working to trace the suspects using CCTV footage as the investigation continues.
