A Ugandan national was apprehended in Delhi after allegedly defrauding a local resident of Rs 1.9 lakh using a dating app scam, the police reported on Monday.

The accused, Micheal Iga, reportedly inhabited the Burari area without valid documentation. Posing as a woman on a dating app, he enticed his victim with a fabricated scheme involving the purchase of a 'rare oil' from Assam, promising substantial profits.

Offering false assurances, Iga convinced the complainant to transfer funds across various bank accounts. His arrest was the result of a digital trail investigation, resulting in the recovery of multiple phones, a laptop, banking cards, and cash. Iga is connected to multiple cyber fraud cases nationwide.
