Congress MP Manish Tewari voiced strong opposition to the Election Commission's actions, particularly regarding the Special Intensive Revision, which he argues has no legal basis and should be halted. Highlighting the need for comprehensive election reforms, Tewari initiated a debate on the matter in the Lok Sabha.
Tewari proposed crucial additions to the panel responsible for selecting election commissioners, suggesting the inclusion of the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and the Chief Justice of India. He also called for either mandatory 100 percent VVPAT slip counting or a return to paper ballots to ensure electoral integrity.
In his address, Tewari criticized the government's approach to cash transfers before elections and questioned the transparency of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) system. He urged for better transparency in electoral processes to maintain democratic principles and public trust.
