West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government, tearing up a note that outlined new MGNREGA norms during a public meeting. She described the guidelines as 'valueless and insulting' and announced that her state would independently manage its work schemes without relying on 'Delhi's charity.'

Speaking at a TMC rally, Banerjee accused the central government of weaponizing funds against Bengal, driven by 'jealousy and hatred.' She highlighted a recent communication from the Centre, which imposed 'absurd and restrictive' stipulations, such as submitting a quarterly labor budget and requiring mandatory training before employment. She criticized the impracticality of these conditions, especially with elections looming.

Emphasizing state dignity and federal rights, Banerjee vowed that Bengal would never bow down. She cited unresolved central funds amounting to Rs 51,627 crore for MNREGA and warned of political motives delaying fund release. Additionally, she elaborated on reforms under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme, aimed at streamlining social security benefits without the need for separate applications.
