A Mumbai-based gold merchant faced a significant loss when jewellery valued at over Rs 5.53 crore was stolen during his train journey from Solapur to Mumbai. The theft occurred aboard the Siddheshwar Express during the night of December 6-7, as the merchant slept.

The incident took place between Solapur and Kalyan. The merchant had secured his two trolley bags containing 4,456 grams of gold under his seat but awoke to find them gone, officials confirmed. The Kalyan Government Railway Police are intensifying their probe into this audacious theft.

Senior Inspector Pandhari Kande revealed that an FIR has been filed under Section 305(c) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators are examining passenger lists, CCTV footage from major stations, and possible suspect entry-exit points. As of now, no arrests have been made.
