Veteran Bengali actor Kalyan Chatterjee, known for his significant contribution to both Bengali and Hindi cinema, died at 81 in a Kolkata government hospital, as confirmed by the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists Forum.
Chatterjee, who had been battling typhoid and age-related ailments, was receiving treatment at MR Bangur Super Speciality Hospital where he passed away on Sunday night. His career spanned over 400 films, primarily in supporting roles, with his debut film being Aponjon in 1968.
His extensive filmography includes acclaimed films like Dhanyee Meye, Dui Prithibi, and collaborations with legends like Satyajit Ray in Pratidwandi. Additionally, he left a mark in Hindi films, featuring in Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani. The Artists Forum expressed condolences, acknowledging his impact and expressing a profound sense of loss.
