The Government has officially launched a new mobile application designed to make accessing public services easier, safer, and more secure for New Zealanders. Digitising Government and Public Service Minister Judith Collins says the Govt.nz app represents a major step forward in modernising how people interact with government agencies.

“The Govt.nz app provides a secure option for people to access government information and services from their mobile phones,” Collins said. “This is an important milestone in building a digital public service that is customer-focused, efficient, and future-ready.”

The app provides a single trusted entry point to government information, reducing the need for users to navigate multiple websites and systems. It has been developed to support people who prefer mobile access while ensuring strict security and privacy protections.

At launch, the Govt.nz app includes three core features:

  • Access to reliable information and essential services from across central government agencies

  • Personalised dashboards, allowing users to save the services most relevant to them for quick access

  • Emergency alerts delivered from verified organisations such as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Fire and Emergency New Zealand, helping keep people informed during critical events

Minister Collins says the launch is only the beginning of a much larger programme to streamline digital government services.

“Over the coming months additional features will be added, including secure messaging and notifications, and a digital wallet to hold identity credentials like licences and qualifications,” she said. This digital wallet is expected to play a major role in future identity verification systems, reducing paperwork and improving convenience for both citizens and businesses.

Collins also emphasised that using the app will always remain optional.

“People will continue to be able to access government services in a range of ways. Our goal is to offer an option that is secure and convenient, while maintaining the highest standards of safety,” she said.

The Govt.nz app is now available for download on iOS and Android, marking an important milestone in the Government’s digital transformation agenda. Work will continue to ensure more agencies and services are integrated into the platform over time.
