The Supreme Court has provided the central government a six-week timeframe to finalize proposals for the rehabilitation of officer cadets discharged from military training due to disabilities. This decision aims to address the concerns of hundreds affected since 1985.
A bench comprising Justices B V Nagarathna and R Mahadevan noted that the Army, Navy, and Air Force have given positive recommendations on the matter. The Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Finance are yet to approve these proposals to proceed further.
This case, initiated by the court itself, highlights the challenges faced by affected cadets. Discussions include enhancing medical services via ECHS, financial support, educational and resettlement options, and improving insurance coverage. Senior advocate Rekha Palli, acting as amicus curiae, has also submitted key proposals.
