Police authorities have dismantled a significant racket dealing with expired and misbranded consumable products from reputed brands, arresting the alleged mastermind, Atul Jalan, 55, a businessman from Tri Nagar.
Authorities revealed that Jalan acquired near-expiry products at low prices from middlemen and altered details like expiry dates to sell them at discounted rates both online and offline. A complaint by the FSSAI's Central Licensing Authority led to an FIR and subsequent raids at multiple locations.
During the bust, police, alongside FSSAI officials, recovered branded food items, including chocolates worth lakhs. Investigations unveiled tampered labeling to mask product expiration, with further inquiries ongoing to apprehend additional culprits associated with the network.
