Tragic Ties: Brown University Shooter Linked to MIT Murder
Claudio Neves Valente, a Portuguese national, is suspected of a mass shooting at Brown University, killing two students. He is also linked to the murder of an MIT professor, a former classmate, before taking his own life. Investigations reveal his attempts to avoid capture.
Claudio Neves Valente, believed responsible for a deadly mass shooting at Brown University, is confirmed dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His death occurred in a storage facility in New Hampshire, where he had rented space. Authorities are also considering his link to the murder of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor.
The Portuguese national previously studied at Brown University and shared an academic history in Portugal with the slain MIT professor. Despite the connections, investigators remain puzzled over his motive. He initiated the attack at Brown's engineering and physics building, firing over 40 rounds and killing two students, before fatally shooting the MIT professor.
The Trump administration reacted by criticizing the Diversity Visa program. Meanwhile, investigators managed to trace Valente's whereabouts through rental car records and security footage, which painted a troubling picture of his actions leading up to the murders.
