Government Officer Arrested in Highway Fund Misappropriation Scandal

The officer's arrest follows a complaint by the All Nyishi Youth Association and an investigation involving document scrutiny, interviews, and technical analysis. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Arunachal Pradesh has detained a district officer on charges of fund misappropriation linked to a significant highway project, officials revealed on Friday.

According to ACB Superintendent of Police Mridul Yadav, the arrest was made after a thorough examination of evidence, which included documentation review, interrogations, and technical assessments. The officer in question, responsible for land revenue and settlement, was apprehended on December 17.

The broader inquiry into fund misappropriation is ongoing, focusing on compensations intended for communities affected by land acquisitions for the Lada-Sarli Frontier Highway project. This strategic roadway, spanning 1,748 km along the India-China border, is crucial for enhancing connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh's remote areas, as well as bolstering India's border security.
