Trump's Backing of Gaza's Technocratic Government: A New Approach to Fragile Ceasefire
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed support for the newly appointed 'Palestinian Technocratic Government' in Gaza, as part of a fragile ceasefire initiated in October. The plan involves forming a transitional governance overseen by an international 'Board of Peace,' chaired by Trump, to stabilize the region.
President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind the newly established 'Palestinian Technocratic Government' in Gaza, a crucial element in the fragile October ceasefire. Announcing this move on social media, Trump declared that the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza will lead the region through its transition.
The ceasefire plan, backed by Trump, involves oversight by an international 'Board of Peace', chaired by the President himself, aiming to supervise Gaza's governance during this period. The announcement comes as Israel and Hamas continue to trade accusations of violations, with significant deaths reported since October's truce.
As the ceasefire's second phase progresses, Washington and its partners face challenges such as disarming Hamas and facilitating further Israeli withdrawal. Mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey stated that the technocratic body would comprise 15 members, directed by Ali Shaath, to guide Gaza towards a peaceful future amidst ongoing tensions.
