Tragedy struck at an illegal stone quarry in Odisha's Malkangiri district when two labourers lost their lives and another sustained injuries. The accident, reported on Friday, occurred near the Tarini Temple when stones fell on the workers during a soil-digging operation.
The deceased have been identified as Tuna Gadba, aged 21, from Satyamguda village, and Mitu Madhi, aged 31, from Champakhari village. Another worker named Bijay Rao, also from Champaghari village, suffered serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a government hospital, according to information provided by Inspector-in-Charge Regan Kindo of the Malkangiri Model Police Station.
The incident unfolded as the trio was engaged in loading the excavated soil onto a tractor. Following the stone collapse, the tractor driver and other workers reportedly fled the scene. Local residents quickly responded, assisting in the rescue and informing the police. An investigation into the illegal quarrying operations is now underway.
