The Mizoram State Election Commission plans to schedule the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections in April or May. According to Commissioner H. Lalthlangliana, the elections were postponed due to scheduling conflicts, including the budget session and school examinations.

Corresponding with the end of AMC's current term on March 1 and the financial year, the delay necessitated the appointment of an interim administrator. Preparations for the polls have been ongoing, with the final roll revealing over 2.39 lakh voters across 19 wards.

The opposition Congress has released a candidate list for 13 of 19 seats, while other parties including the ruling Zoram People's Movement and the main opposition Mizo National Front have yet to announce their candidates. The MNF previously secured a majority in the last AMC polls held in February 2021.
