The Uttarakhand High Court intervened on Friday, halting the arrest of 26 people accused in the high-profile suicide case of a farmer in Udham Singh Nagar district. The state government has been instructed to file a response as the case progresses.

A vacation bench under Justice Ashish Naithani announced that the next hearing for the case is scheduled for April 15. The case emerged after Sukhwant Singh, hailing from Paiga village, allegedly took his own life in Nainital's Haldwani, under suspicious circumstances back in January.

Sukhwant's brother, Parvinder Singh, lodged a complaint implicating 26 individuals after Sukhwant posted a video on social media accusing them of cheating him of Rs 4 crore in a fraudulent land deal. The accused have since sought a stay on their arrest, claiming innocence and denying any involvement.
