Trump Steps into the Waters: Offering to Mediate Nile Dispute
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has offered to mediate the ongoing dispute between Egypt and Ethiopia concerning the Nile River waters. The conflict arises from Ethiopia's inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which Egypt fears could lead to water shortages and environmental issues downstream.
In a notable development, former U.S. President Donald Trump has extended an offer to mediate the long-standing dispute between Egypt and Ethiopia regarding the waters of the Nile River.
The point of contention is the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which Ethiopia inaugurated on September 9, and which it views as essential for its economic development. However, Egypt argues that the dam violates international treaties and could trigger droughts and floods downstream.
Trump, who has previously praised Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, reiterated Cairo's concerns and expressed readiness to help resolve the issue in a letter that he shared on his Truth Social account.
