The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has unveiled a significant corruption scandal amounting to Rs 366 crore within Tamil Nadu's Department of Municipal Administration Urban and Water Supply, officials confirmed Tuesday. The investigation revealed widespread bribery linked to the transfer and postings of officials, implicating Minister K N Nehru and associates.
The ED's Chennai office has formally communicated with the state chief secretary and the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), urging for a police FIR against Nehru and others allegedly involved. Previously, the ED had alerted state authorities twice about rampant corruption in department tenders and recruitments, implicating the minister.
Charged with defaming him, Nehru has dismissed the allegations, stating that the ED is targeting him unfairly. The ED aims to establish a PMLA case by sharing evidence involving hundreds of officials purportedly engaged in a bribery scheme to facilitate the illegal transfer of funds into real estate, luxury goods, and foreign investments.
