The Lok Sabha is gearing up for a significant change with a new attendance system for its members set to debut during the upcoming Budget session. MPs will now register their attendance directly at their allocated seats, foregoing the traditional lobby check-ins.
This innovation, announced by Speaker Om Birla at the All India Presiding Officers' Conference, seeks to expedite the process and mitigate lobby congestion. Previously, MPs marked attendance via digital pens in the lobby, leading to delays and absentee issues.
Furthermore, the Lok Sabha Secretariat is experimenting with AI tools for translating legislative debates, attaining 80% accuracy. By April, it's anticipated that proceedings will be swiftly uploaded to the MPs' portal within half an hour, reflecting the rapid integration of AI in legislative processes.
