A man accused of abducting a hearing-and-speech-impaired woman was arrested after a tense encounter with police authorities in Kanpur on Tuesday, officials confirmed.
The 20-year-old victim was safely rescued during the incident. The accused, identified as 40-year-old Lala Nat from Hariharpur under Sikandra Police Station, sustained an injury to the leg during retaliatory police firing. He was subsequently taken to a hospital.
Additional Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar reported the victim's father filed a complaint on January 26. The victim was allegedly kidnapped while collecting fodder, leading to a formal case lodged under section 87 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation and legal proceedings are ongoing.
