A 72-year-old man has been taken into custody on allegations of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl in the jurisdiction of Ashok Nagar, police reported on Monday.
The incident, which occurred on January 29, initially saw hesitation from the victim's family in notifying authorities due to concerns about a potentially protracted legal process, according to a senior police officer.
However, local residents took action, alerting law enforcement to prevent any recurrence. Responding to the community's pressure, the police assured protection and subsequently registered a case under the POCSO Act, resulting in the suspect's arrest.
