Rising Tensions: Kashmiris Targeted in Mob Violence

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has criticized state governments for allegedly allowing mob violence against Kashmiris outside the Union Territory, replacing law with a climate of fear. She accused MPs from Jammu and Kashmir of silence on the issue amid incidents of violence against Kashmiris in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti issued a scathing critique of state governments on Tuesday, alleging they provide implicit support to mob violence targeting Kashmiris beyond the Union Territory's borders.

Mufti argues this troubling shift towards fear-based politics has supplanted the rule of law, with some states viewing hatred as a means to political success.

Her comments followed disturbing reports of violence against Kashmiris, including a recent harassment of an elderly man in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur, and an attack in Uttarakhand that left a young Kashmiri seriously injured. Mufti also censured Jammu and Kashmir's MPs for their silence on these unsettling issues.
