Delhi Court Summons Congress Leaders Over Defamation Case

A court in Delhi has summoned Congress leaders Ragini Nayak, Pawan Khera, and Jairam Ramesh in connection with a criminal defamation and forgery complaint by journalist Rajat Sharma. The case relates to an allegedly tampered video clip posted on social media intending to harm Sharma’s reputation.

The Delhi court has issued summons to Congress leaders Ragini Nayak, Pawan Khera, and Jairam Ramesh following a defamation and forgery complaint lodged by senior journalist Rajat Sharma. The allegations center around a video clip purportedly tampered with and distributed on social media platforms.

According to Judicial Magistrate First Class Devanshi Janmeja, there is a prima facie case under sections pertaining to forgery and defamation. The accused are expected to appear before the court on July 27, 2026. The complaint suggests that Sharma's reputation suffered among the public and his acquaintances due to the claims about an objectionable comment during a televised debate.

A Forensic Science Laboratory report indicated visible tampering of the video, allegedly altered to include captions that portrayed Sharma in a negative light. The Delhi High Court previously ordered the removal of the contentious posts, having found no evidence supporting the abusive language accusation during the debate.
