Tragic End: Undertrial Prisoner's Death Sparks Inquiry

A 25-year-old undertrial prisoner, Manoj Kumar from Uttar Pradesh, has allegedly committed suicide in Orai district jail. He was found hanging in a prison toilet on Saturday afternoon, according to officials.
Kumar, who faced charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, was in judicial custody since March. Jail Superintendent Neeraj Dev reported that Kumar was discovered hanging from an iron rod with a towel after failing to return to his barrack post a bathroom visit.
Despite being found still breathing, Kumar was pronounced dead upon arrival at Orai Medical College. A high-level inquiry is underway to explore the incident's causes and assess any staff negligence. Jail authorities vow disciplinary actions if lapses are detected.
