From Espionage to Extradition: The Story of Iqbal Bhatti

In a significant development, Iqbal Bhatti, a Pakistani citizen accused of espionage, has been deported back to his home country after completing a 17-year jail sentence in India. He was handed over to Pakistani authorities at the Wagah border on Monday night under tight security.

Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Yadav confirmed that Bhatti, who was living in Saharanpur under the alias Devraj Sehgal, had forged documents, including voter ID and bank accounts. His arrest by Punjab Police in 2008 revealed his espionage activities, culminating in a lengthy prison term.

Following his release from Gautam Budh Nagar jail 11 months ago, Bhatti was held in a detention center while awaiting deportation. Official paperwork concluded, allowing him to express his long-standing desire to return to Pakistan, ultimately leading to his deportation.
