Uttar Pradesh's Chief Electoral Officer, Navdeep Rinwa, on Tuesday, dismissed allegations from SP leader Akhilesh Yadav concerning irregularities in the state's Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls. He emphasized that the use of Form 7 for name deletions is lawfully grounded and part of statutory procedures.
Rinwa clarified that the revision process is not just an administrative setup but falls within the legal framework of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. He stated that the allegations of misuse of Form 7, especially targeting disadvantaged groups, were unfounded and procedures are in place to ensure transparency, including daily bulletins on the number of forms submitted.
He addressed accusations regarding wrongful name deletions, particularly dismissing claims against areas like Sakaldiha and Ballia, and the alleged removal of an SP MLA's wife's name, declaring them incorrect. Meetings are ongoing with political parties to keep them informed of the revision process.
