Maharashtra Government Revokes 5% Muslim Reservation

The Maharashtra government has revoked a five per cent reservation for the Muslim community in jobs and education. The cancellation follows an interim court stay on the previous ordinance issued by the Congress-NCP government. The decision affects the Special Backward Category (A) group.

In a significant development, the Maharashtra government has rescinded the five per cent reservation for Muslims in employment and education. The move follows the expiration of a previous ordinance and an interim stay order by the court.

Initially, the previous Congress-NCP government had granted a 16 per cent quota to the Marathas and a five per cent reservation to Muslims. This included Muslims in the Special Backward Category (A), deeming them socially and educationally disadvantaged.

The recent Government Resolution stipulates the cancellation of all prior decisions and related ordinances from 2014, halting the issuance of caste and non-creamy layer certificates for Muslims in the said category.
