Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has unveiled plans to regularise temporary and daily-rated employees in a move aimed at stabilising the workforce by 2026. This initiative seeks to integrate over one lakh daily wagers and casual labourers, who have been in limbo for decades, into a regular workforce.

Addressing the Assembly, Abdullah assured that the process will be legally and financially viable, with a committee under the chief secretary's supervision to ensure policy soundness and avoid historical pitfalls that have stalled similar initiatives.

The government also aims to fill nearly 30,000 vacant posts this year, emphasising a transparent and coordinated approach with the Selection Board and Public Service Commission to preempt legal challenges and ensure accountability.
