The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) undertook a significant demolition drive on Sunday, targeting illegal structures linked to one of the accused in the recent Uttam Nagar clash, where a 26-year-old man was murdered. Comprehensive security measures, including the deployment of police and paramilitary forces, were in place to maintain peace during the operation.

Civic officials used bulldozers to dismantle only the unlawfully constructed sections of the house, not the entire edifice. This was part of ongoing efforts to clear encroachments from drainage areas, with the approaching monsoon season cited as a rationale for the urgency of the action. The removal of illegal structures built over drains is intended to prevent disruptions to water flow, according to the MCD's west zone senior official.

The demolition follows tensions incited by the killing of Tarun during a dispute over water splashing during Holi celebrations, leading to arrests and charges under the SC/ST Act. In the wake of the incident, there was widespread unrest, with property damage and fires reported, necessitating heavy police presence to prevent further breaches of order.
