In a unified stand against racial discrimination, the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly urged the Centre to enact a stringent anti-racism law. The appeal came after a racial abuse incident in Delhi highlighted the persistent issue faced by Northeasterners.
Nationalist People's Party MLA Thangwang Wangham spearheaded the discussion, referencing a case where women from Arunachal Pradesh were racially abused over a minor dispute. He called for better understanding of the Northeast's cultural contributions and sought strong measures to combat systemic racism.
Lawmakers recommended educational reforms to increase awareness and urged national leaders to address the discrimination issue robustly. Responding, Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona emphasized the need to change mindsets and supported the demand for anti-racism legislation.
