Mizoram's Call for Vigilance: Strengthening Border Security with Assam

Mizoram's primary opposition leader, Lalrinsanga Ralte of the Mizo National Front, has voiced urgent concerns over the state's border security with Assam. During a Home department budget discussion, he underscored the need for vigilance against potential provocations linked to upcoming elections in Assam.

Ralte, representing the Serlui constituency in Kolasib district, highlighted the history of conflicts stemming from colonial-era demarcations. Despite agreements following the violent 2021 clash, he accused Assam of disregarding the status quo arrangements at the shared 164.6 km border.

While Assam has upgraded its temporary Border Outposts to permanent facilities, Ralte criticized Mizoram's slower infrastructure development. He warned that lagging developments may pose future security risks and urged proactive measures from Mizoram's administration.
