In a daring con operation, Belagavi Police apprehended a woman accused of robbing affluent men by enticing them through social media. A senior police official identified the suspect as Deepa Avatagi, a self-proclaimed fashion designer from Mahalingpur in Bagalkot district.

Authorities revealed that Avatagi worked alongside her associate, Shivanand Mathapati, who is currently on the run. Mathapati allegedly provided information about potential wealthy targets. The investigation showed Avatagi used platforms like Instagram and Facebook to connect with her victims before luring them to a Belagavi lodge.

Once at the lodge, Avatagi reportedly locked her victims in the bathroom and escaped with their belongings. Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase disclosed that many of these incidents were recorded on CCTV. A thorough investigation has led to the recovery of significant assets, and authorities are making efforts to track down Mathapati, with cases registered at the Tilakwadi Police Station.
