Supreme Court Dismisses Plea to Bring Back Netaji's Ashes from Tokyo

The Supreme Court dismissed a plea by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's grand nephew to repatriate ashes believed to be Bose's from Tokyo's Renkoji temple. The Supreme Court, on Thursday, declined to entertain a petition from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's grand nephew. The plea sought directions to return to India, the ashes believed to be Bose's from Tokyo's Renkoji temple.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi, expressed reluctance, leading senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi to withdraw the petition on behalf of petitioner Ashis Ray.

The court questioned the family support for the move, emphasizing Bose's daughter's absence in court. Singhvi argued for the family's wish to close the matter with dignity, yet the bench cited internal family differences.
