Gujarat's Uniform Civil Code Report: A New Legal Framework for All

A committee established by the Gujarat government has delivered its final report on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The report proposes a unified legal framework for all religions and communities, addressing critical issues such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption.

The report, prioritizing equal rights and protection for women, takes into account the cultural and geographical diversity of Gujarat. Retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, along with retired IAS officer CL Meena, senior advocate R C Kodekar, former Vice Chancellor Dr. Dakshesh Thakar, and social activist Geeta Shroff, presented the three-volume document in Gandhinagar.

The initiative marks a significant step towards legal uniformity across diverse communities in Gujarat, as the state seeks to modernize its legal frameworks while respecting cultural nuances.
