International Force to Combat Gangs in Haiti Gains Momentum

The U.N.-backed Gang Suppression Force, aimed at aiding Haiti's police in tackling armed gangs, is expected to be fully operational by October. Dominican Republic's foreign minister, Roberto Alvarez, revealed that Chad's troops are being trained in the U.S., while Kenyan forces will gradually withdraw.

The U.N.-supported Gang Suppression Force, designed to aid Haiti's police in their struggle against powerful armed gangs, is set to be fully deployed by October of this year. This international initiative was discussed by Roberto Alvarez, the foreign minister of the Dominican Republic.

Alvarez briefed on the progress following a meeting with U.S. embassy officials, indicating that military personnel from Chad are currently undergoing training in the United States. Their deployment is part of a new strategy to support Haitian law enforcement.

Meanwhile, the Kenyan police, who were initially deployed to Haiti under an earlier phase of this initiative, are expected to withdraw gradually as the new troops take over their roles.
