Authorities in Jharkhand's Deoghar district have apprehended four individuals alleged to be involved in a series of fraudulent ATM withdrawals, according to police reports released on Tuesday.
Superintendent of Police Saurabh highlighted that the suspects were found in possession of eight mobile phones, six SIM cards, ten ATM cards, and various tools for tampering with ATM machines. This operation unraveled after numerous complaints emerged from the Nagar and Jasidih areas regarding ATM cards becoming stuck, followed by unauthorized account withdrawals.
The investigation revealed the suspects masqueraded as ATM technicians or bank personnel to deceitfully gain customers' trust, pressuring them into disclosing their PINs under the guise of assistance. The police have intensified their efforts to further investigate the extent of the criminal activities.
