The Supreme Court has officially quashed the FIR and subsequent proceedings against YouTuber Elvish Yadav regarding allegations of using snake venom at a rave party in Noida. Arrested in 2024, Yadav faced charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act along with the Wildlife Protection Act. However, the court ruled these charges unsustainable.
A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh focused on the legality of the charges under specific sections of the NDPS Act and Wildlife Protection Act. Criticizing procedural issues, the court pointed out that neither act had been adequately invoked. The liquid substance implicated was not listed under the schedule of banned substances.
The ruling allows authorities to pursue proper legal procedures if deemed necessary. The case had attracted significant media attention due to Yadav's fame as an influencer and reality show contestant. Importantly, it highlights issues of legal protocol and celebrity influence on judicial processes.
