A cross-border drone attack originating from Sudan resulted in the death of 17 individuals in Chad, including mourners at a funeral, according to the Chadian government and local informants. This attack has prompted Chad's president to warn of retaliation against further aggression.

The tragic event occurred in the border town of Tine on Wednesday afternoon, where mourners had convened for a Koran reading ceremony. Two explosions caused multiple casualties, affecting mourners and children playing nearby, a local resident reported, opting for anonymity due to safety concerns.

Uncertainty surrounds the parties responsible for the assault. However, the conflict in Sudan, involving the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces beginning in April 2023, has occasionally encroached on Chadian soil, leading to fatalities and destruction. Chad, having closed its eastern border with Sudan, has fortified its security presence and is prepared to conduct operations within Sudan if necessary, as announced by President Mahamat Idriss Deby's office.
