Addressing the press ahead of an EU summit in Brussels, Merz stated, "I am expressly grateful that the U.S. president sent a signal in this regard last night that he is prepared to bring the fighting to an end."

Trump had commented on Wednesday that Israel launched aggressive action on Iran's major gas field, marking a significant escalation in the U.S.-Israeli conflict, but noted Israel's restraint unless further provoked by Iran.
