Noida Police Officers Suspended Amid Rape Case Mishandling Allegations

Two Noida police officers have been suspended for not including critical legal sections in a rape case FIR. Following protests and a review, provisions related to unlawful religious conversion and the SC/ST Act were added. An inquiry into the matter has been initiated against senior officers.

Two police officers in Noida have faced suspension for allegedly omitting crucial legal sections in a rape case FIR, officials confirmed on Friday. The FIR, originally lodged at Phase-3 police station, lacked essential provisions under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act and the SC/ST Act.

The oversight came to light after right-wing activists protested, demanding the inclusion of these sections. Initially, the FIR only included charges of deceit, criminal intimidation, and extortion, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Upon review, senior police officials initiated a preliminary inquiry against local commanders. The inquiry has been assigned to Additional DCP Manisha Singh. Further, protests and public scrutiny have prompted additional action to rectify the police's initial failure.
