China Hosts Peace Talks as Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions Escalate
Pakistan and Afghanistan are in talks in China to resolve severe conflict since the Taliban's 2021 return. The discussions, taking place in Urumqi, aim to end cross-border attacks. Accusations of harboring militants strain relations. China's mediation seeks to improve relations, trade, and security management.
Senior officials from Pakistan and Afghanistan are currently engaged in discussions in Urumqi, China, to resolve their worst conflict since the Taliban's return to power in 2021, according to sources from both countries.
The ongoing hostilities have led to numerous casualties, primarily in Afghanistan. Pakistan claims that Afghan Taliban are sheltering militants attacking Pakistan, a charge firmly denied by Kabul.
The Chinese-mediated talks aim to secure a ceasefire, reopen border crossings for trade and travel, and address security concerns amidst accusations on both sides.
