Women Reservation Act 2023: A New Era for Legislative Representation
The Women Reservation Act 2023, mandating a 33% quota for women in legislatures, has been officially enacted. However, its implementation is contingent on a delimitation exercise after the next census, potentially delaying enforceability until 2034. The law is a historic step towards increasing women's representation in legislative bodies.

The Women Reservation Act 2023, establishing a 33% quota for women in legislative bodies, has officially been enacted, as per a Union Law Ministry notification.
Despite its activation, immediate implementation is unfeasible, pending a necessary delimitation exercise following the upcoming 2027 census. This means enforceability might not be achieved until 2034.
Passed by Parliament in September 2023, this act, also known as 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,' marks a significant stride towards enhancing women's legislative representation.
